Longhorn News 2007 - 2008

These are the TENTATIVE dates for our campouts this year:

** Elections are done. CONGRATULATIONS to our new SPL and PLC! **

We moved all our stuff to the new room and it is going to be awesome! We need to get things put away, then start putting our plaques and things on the walls, but it is going to be great!

It looks like we will keep the meetings on Tuesday, as our new SPL works on Monday nights.

September 7-9 Worlds of Fun Scout Weekend

October 12-14 Camporee

November 9-11 Thanksgiving Feast

December 15-16 Squaw Creek Campout - We will travel the 10 mile loop and camp at Big lake's Boy Scout Island.

January 18- 20 Wilderness Survival @ Camp Geiger

February 15-17 Shooting Range

March 14-15 IBEX Indoor Climbing

April 18-20 Roaring River - Trout Fishing.

May 16-18 Biking

June - TBA

Summer Camp - June 26 through July 5

Katy Trail Expansion

Troop,

According to the Kansas City Star (http://www.kansascity.com/105/story/381474-p2.html) and the Associated Press, the state is working on expanding the Katy Trail closer to Kansas City. It looks like the trail would end up stopping in Pleasant Hill, Missouri as a new branch.

Squaw Creek Campout

Troop 683 will be going to the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge to watch wildlife and camp at Big Lakes Boy Scout Island. Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge is located in northwestern Missouri within the historic Missouri River floodplain. The 7,350-acre refuge was established in 1935 as a resting, feeding, and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife.

New Rules for Camp Outs

Tuesday night, 2 weeks prior to campout we need to have a final count.

Tuesday night prior to the campout all money must be turned in.

Tuesday night prior to the campout, the person buying the food will get the money for the food purchase. If you go over budget, it is out of your own pocket.

We understand that emergencies happen, but no refunds will be made after the food is purchased and/or deposits have been made on the campsite.
