If you are a new Scout wishing to join our troop, please click HERE and remember we are Troop 683 in Overland Park, Kansas, in the Trailhead district.

We  are now located at the Overland Park Lutheran Church.

If your are a new parent or youth wishing to learn more about our troop and scouting in general, please email the Troop Committee at: committee at troop683 dot org. Due to email robots you will have to insert the corrected email address.

Our troop history is now available in the upper left hand menu and if you wish to add a story about one of our past Scoutmasters, please send it to the Troop Committee for review and approval. We would love to have some fun stories of former Longhorns.

Our new site is expected to be a lot better than our old site upon completion with a lot of new features. We are working on a working photo gallery, download section for all troop documentation, an advancement corner for reference material, and scout information material for all of our registered members.

To be a member of our site you will need to contact the Scoutmaster or someone in our Troop for the passphrase.

With summer camp fast approaching, the troop is going to do another Pancake feast for everyone to sell tickets and have a good chance to make enough money to cover their troop activity costs for the year. The pancake feast will be on Saturday May 7th 8:00 am to 12:30 p.m. which will be open to the public and Sunday May 8th Time TBD which will be open to the congration of Overland Park Lutheran church.
Saturday will be the day we sell tickets for and you will be able to make 45% of your total sales. With this in mind, if you need $300 for Summer Camp you will need to sell $667.00 in ticket sales to totally cover your summer camp costs and if you want to pay for your entire year of Scouts you will need to sell approximately $2,000 in total ticket sales.
Remember, a scout is thrifty and needs to pay his own way. Mom and Dad pay for everything to keep you fed and a warm with a roof over your head. Your responsibility as a Boy Scout is to help out and this is a great way to do just that.
We will need everyone to be available to work shifts for these events.

Troop Rock

This year Summer Camp will be first session at Lone Star - Cherokee. As it stood as of the camp draw last Saturday, we are all by ourselves in this campsite, however, this could change before summer camp.

Troop 683,

What a great year at summer camp on the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation!

First off: Congratulations to our new Foxman, Warrior, Fire Builder, and our two new Tom Tom Beaters… great job! In addition, a special thanks to our Chief and new Medicine Man for coming down, it really means a lot to everyone to see you down at camp.

Second: thank you to all of our new young adult leadership core! Without your help, this year would not have happened… major kudos from me on everything you did to help out this year.

We won FIRST place with our time of 1 minute 44 seconds in the boat Ricotta with our masterpiece cardboard ship and expert pilot… way to go Troop 683.

We planned most of the year at summer camp and we will need to tweak the meetings, get the Troop Committee’s approval, and find chairs for each event. In addition, we want to have one Activity night per month, bring back the Inter-patrol Activities, and complete Junior Leader Training on our August 31 meeting.

Special thanks to everyone that was involved in the planning and execution on the family day feast. Special thank to Mrs. Bain for chairing the extremely successful event!

Truly a great year,

 Mr. T
